In 2018 Neil and I (Gabby) both thought we should just accept the single life, however a mutual friend decided to intervene. I was complaining about how online dating sucks and was exhausting, when he told me about this guy. We exchanged numbers and started texting each other. We finally agreed to a first date, on a weeknight no less (that was very much against my dating rules.) It was slightly convenient because the Broncos were playing, and I wanted to watch the game. Dinner was full of great conversation, stories about each other’s past, and Neil trying to get me to spike my glass because of how terrible the Broncos were playing. Even after one of the most awkward goodbye hugs had a second date, and then a third. After a month or so of hanging out Neil’s big move was to break both his hands mountain biking and get me to take care of him. This led to spending Thanksgiving together with a backpacking trip in Big Sur, CA. The weather was not on our side and the trip got cut short due to rain. I got the pleasure to meet his family and spend the holiday with them. It was during this weekend I asked (told) Neil to be my boyfriend. Two years later we were able to return to Big Sur to redo our Thanksgiving trip and this is where Neil popped the question. Of course, I said YES!
