We originally met at Montbello High School around 2000. James played basketball and Gabrielle was a cheerleader. He often says she was his personal cheerleader. The truth is, we don't recall ever interacting - she thought his friends were weird and he didn't date girls from our high school. He moved schools and we don't recall seeing each other again until April 26, 2019. She worked for his uncle, who was mayor of Denver at the time. James and Gabrielle ran into each other at his family and friends campaign event. She said hello and reintroduced herself - he assured her that he knew exactly who she was. They talked and after learning she was a former journalist, he invited her to join him for dinner to discuss his new book and interview him at his book launch. He knew it was a date - she didn't. After getting to know him at dinner, she fell in love - excited at the possibility that he, indeed, could be the man God sent to her. After dinner, they took a walk, she got winded and pulled out her inhaler - it was that moment that he fell in love. (Yes, you can laugh.) Over the course of the next few months they got to know each other and married secretly on September 26, 2019.
