FAQs

You may be wondering...
Question

Where & when will the ceremony be?

Answer

The ceremony will be held on the beach just before sunset on November 25th--most likely right out front of the Shore St house, if weather permits. The reception will be semi-formal. In the event of mild weather complications, we will move the ceremony under the tents on the deck. In the event of major weather complications, we'll have the ceremony in the main living area of the Shore St house and recall for years that silly time we got married while crammed into a beach house with our loved ones ;)

Question

Where should we stay?

Answer

We know travel during this time of year is a BIG ask, so here are a couple options if you're still willing to make the trek! Vrbo has solid deals on beach houses big and small, and there are several hotels on the island to book a stay at. Be sure to book ASAP, even though November is in the off-season! If you're willing/able to drive, Wilmington NC is just an hour away and has even more accommodations.

Question

Will it be a traditional ceremony?

Answer

Sort of! You will definitely recognize most aspects of a traditional wedding: the aisle/seating, florals, a kiss to seal the deal, etc. But you'll ALSO notice we (painstakingly) crafted a hybrid ceremony that honors the mixing of the couple's cultures: Gab's Potawatomi roots, Jacob's Appalachian traditions, among others. For that, expect to see things like: our sacred plant relatives cedar, sweetgrass, tobacco and sage, a place honoring our loved ones and ancestors passed on, and a beautiful heirloom blanket wrapping ceremony.

Question

Where should I park?

Answer

The Shore St house is conveniently just a couple houses South of the Topsail Pier--which means there is lots of public parking (in lots and streets) in the area. We have very limited space at the Shore St house, so we will be prioritizing those staying in the house for driveway parking. We appreciate how tricky parking can be, so thank you for being flexible!

Question

How accessible is this whole thing?

Answer

For the ceremony (which is aimed at being no more than 40 minutes), guests will be seated in a chair, facing the sunset. We anticipate a warm evening breeze, but it could definitely be more like warm evening gusts (blankets will be available and we'll play the whole beach part by ear). Getting down to the beach from the street involves climbing a set of stairs stairs up from the street to the deck, and then down from the deck to the beach. Or, your route can be stairless by using the public beach access point nearby and walking just a couple houses over. Please let us know if you need any information or accommodations!

Question

What kind of weather should we expect?

Answer

We're crossing our fingers and toes for the best case scenario of about 65-70 degrees and mostly sunny. But this will be mid-Autumn on the Atlantic Coast, meaning weather is pretty unpredictable. Think (possibly) LOTS of rain and wind, or (possibly) breezy and warm. Maybe even on the same day! Either way, we have a plan and will generally play it on the safe side.

Question

What should I wear?!

Answer

The beauty of a beach ceremony is that they tend to be less formal! We're going for a simple and intimate vibe for the day, so whatever that means for you is great. Feel free to dress in hues of our wedding colors (burnt oranges and pinks, neutral tones, etc) but most importantly, whatever makes you comfortable in the breezy evening. Sunglasses recommended, shoes optional!
