The Valley Railroad, operating under the name Essex Steam Train and Riverboat, is a heritage railroad based in Connecticut on tracks of the Connecticut Valley Railroad. Unlike many railroad museums and excursions, the Valley Railroad Company has been in existence in one form or the other since 1868. In some ways, the history of this little railroad is as exciting as a ride on the railroad today, reflecting the ups and downs of the American rail system from the early days of steam to the present.

It might not be warm enough to swim in the water, but a nice walk on the beach is always beautiful across the Connecticut shoreline! Hammonasset is a two-mile sandy stretch of beach with a bustling campground and serene nature preserve. This is Connecticut's longest shoreline park. Parking is free for in-state registered vehicles and $22 for out-of-state vehicles on the weekends!
This is the largest of the town beaches in Westbrook. Parking is free for residents and $20 for non-residents!
Hiking in the fall in New England is highly recommended! The scenery is absolutely stunning this time of year! Head out on this 1.2-mile loop that takes an average of 27 minutes to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and walking.
