Bride
Yoko is from Yamanashi prefecture in Japan. As a child she had a fascination for making shiny mud balls, swimming, and avoiding the persimmon trees that dot her valley. She studied in the US since age 13, living by herself in boarding schools in Connecticut and New Jersey. She learned English in the US and played field hockey as a goalie, which made her unflinchingly tough. She studied architecture at the Hobart and William-Smith colleges in upstate New York, and completed her two masters at Washington University in St. Louis. She learned to live on very short sleep during architecture school. She now works for Payette in Boston. She loves to bake, draw, stroll, and spent time with her "Gabby".
Groom
Gabriel grew up in New Hampshire with a love for speed skating and acorn fights. He was raised to speak French and Russian by his parents, and will eat absolutely anything: croissants, snails, natto, crickets, seafood, and his mother's famous apple pie. Living his whole life in college campuses, Gabriel always loved science and languages. He worked at UNH for six months as a chemistry intern, traveled twice to Japan for study abroad programs, studied math and physics at Williams College, spent covid in Normandy, and is now studying molecular physics for a PhD at Harvard University. Along the way he loved rowing, white water rafting, and biking. He is now a very happy man living with his darling Yoko.
Best Man
Orrin grew up on the other side of Turkey pond from Gabriel, and spent time climbing trees, building legos and skiing together. He, his brother Reyer, and Gabriel had a formative trip to Italy after college, where they learned the best, the worst, and the brotherly bond within each other. Orrin is now an engineer in automation, and loves chatting with Gabriel about classical and quantum physics. Kind, reliable, sharp, and an amazing listener, he is the best man for chatting all night with, visiting Lawrence, catching fish, and surprise engagements.
Maid of Honor
Yoko first met Lizzy during the summer of 2022 at Payette. Lizzy earned her Master of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. She’s the life of the room—outgoing, endlessly social, and famously kind to absolutely everyone. Though Yoko and Lizzy never worked directly on a project together, they collaborated closely in the Life Cycle Analysis research group and as co-chairs of Women in Design. Lizzy is the definition of dedicated—she works tirelessly, stays late, arrives early, and somehow never shows a hint of exhaustion. Outside of work, Lizzy is an adventurer through and through. Nothing holds her back—not even a broken wrist! After a skating accident left her dominant hand out of commission for months, she still went on a ski trip, soaking in the slopes from the sidelines. These days, she’s a passionate skier, often heading to the mountains during the winter.
Officiant
Alan and his wife, Wendy, are like godparents to Gabriel. When Gabriel turned 13, they gave him a box of New York Times newspapers from each of his birthdays. Alan was taught French by Laurent (Gabriel's father), and Wendy was Gabriel's pediatrician. They were always there through thick and thin, housing us between homes and regaling us with their world travels over delicious food. It's thanks to them that Gabriel learned about the wonders of the Cape, Ken-Kens, crosswords, and Dyer pond.
