We met in 2012 at Whittier College, in the same sociology class talking about our shared interest in traveling to travel the world. Conversations led to hanging out and a few months later, our first date was field level seats at the LA Galaxy Game. We officially started dating in December 10, 2012 while ice skating at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles and have been going on fun adventures ever since.
We took a trip to Banff, Alberta, Canada over Easter with some of our closest friends. Gabe had an elaborate plan to propose at Lake Louise in Banff National Park. However, due to avalanches in the area, the roads were closed to get there. The night of the 19th, Kaylyn went to bed early and Gabe stayed up late with all our friends frantically figuring out a different proposal spot. The morning of the 20th, we all drove to a hike in Johnson Canyon. It was icy so every one was wearing cramp ons. Gabe found a secluded area down near the river. The river was down a fairly steep, narrow hill and Kaylyn is afraid of heights. She told everyone "I'll just wait up here until you're done." Our friend Kayla was with her at the top and said, "I think this will be worth it..." So after a little coaxing and Gabe coming back up, Kaylyn made her way down. We were all taking pictures Gabe asked for one of just us. He turned us around to face the group as he was pulling out the ring. Kaylyn noticed he was already crying and immediately knew what was happening. He got down on one knee, said a bunch of cute stuff (that honestly neither of us can remember) and she said YES! Our friends were crying, cheering and popping champagne. We barely had service but were able to get in one FaceTime with Mr. and Mrs. Lane to share the good news. The rest of the day was spent calling / texting everyone we could and celebrating with our friends in one of the most beautiful places we've ever been.
