How We Met

Winter 2020

It all began in the late months of 2020. Snow fell from above, the winds chilled the air, and warmth was scarce with an uncoming blizzard. Gabriel, Devan, and a few others were abandoned within a cabin in the middle of the woods. Desparate for escape, they were forced to work together to call for emergency services. However, to add to this mix, there were two individuals with the sole desire to stop this process, whether through stalling for time or committing full, unadulterated murder!! This was, of course, all within the social deduction game Project Winter. By mere coincidence, the two had both seen the game on sale within Steam, purchased it and met. Not only did they meet each other, but they met a community that formed their own discord server. This allowed both Devan and Gabriel to talk with each other over the course of months, playing Project Winter together, but branching out as well into other cooperative games. What began as a chance encounter in Project Winter evolved into a friendship and eventually love. On the night of May 22, 2021, a new update was added to Project Winter. A group from the Discord server decided to try out the new update, among them both Devan and Gabriel. Within the first game, within mere minutes of the match starting, Devan said "Nobody would ever take me on a date" to which Gabriel, without thinking, without missing a beat, replied "I would take you out". And so began a long night of in-game dates. Together they had a pot pie picnic under the stars, took long walks together, flirted over the walkie talkies when they were separated, and murdered with each other. A night seemingly so magical, yet one niether wanted to end. After everyone else had gotten off for bed, Gabriel was determined to make this last and told Devan seriously how he felt. Reciprocative of his feelings, the two officially began dating. Having such a long distance relationship was difficult at times, but the love they have for each other was stronger than any distance. They continued playing games together, watched shows together, and talked about their days. Virtually every night since the Project Winter dates, they were calling each other. And finally to meet in person, Devan traveled to Gabriel and they met on June 30, 2021. For the next week they hung out watching movies, going out to eat, window shopping, and bowling. It was an amazing week, and by the end, Gabriel knew without a doubt he wanted Devan to be his wife. In the months following, he made plans to visit her family for Thanksgiving, told her parents about his plans of marriage and got their blessings, bought a diamond ring, and planned for a cute yet thematic engagement. February 26th, 2022, Devan flew in completely unaware of what was about to transpire. Gabriel drove her back to the apartment and waiting for them both was a picnic setup, with the classic plaid picnic blanket, woven picnic basket, and cotton to mimic fun snow (not the mushy polluted snow you see all the time outside, ew). To truly express how he felt about Devan, Gabriel set up a picnic to mimic their first virtual date. And as their dating began, so too would their engagement, with a pot pie picnic together. Unfortuneatly, while driving Devan to the apartment, Gabriel was anxious and nervous about what would happen, so much so to the point he got a ticket for speeding (what a daredevil). Fortunately, however, she said yes and the cop was a no show at court. Whew. And so leads us towards this special day coming upon us all. A day where Gabriel and Devan will be joined as one and officially begin their journey together as a married couple. They have found their perfect one to be with and hope you all may celebrate with them however you can.

For all the days along the way
