This is a beautiful, quite famous city. It is worth doing a day trip and is located an hour north of Catania.

Taormina

We recommended seeing Ortigia for a day trip if you stay in another location. It is a UNESCO protected city and  very beautiful.

Ortigia, Siracusa, Sicily

Catania is a large urban Sicilian city, which can be distressed in certain areas but the historical center is vibrant and extremely well maintained and renovated. It is absolutely worth the visit to see.
