As modern love has it, Gabby and Varun met on a dating app called Coffee Meets Bagel back in 2016 (and yes, their first date was over coffee). Gabby was finishing up her last year of graduate school at Boston University, while Varun was working as a research assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital. What was meant to be a quick coffee date turned into an evening of drinks, a walk along the Charles River Esplanade, and an episode of Stranger Things. If you ask Gabby, she’ll tell you she met her husband that day. If you ask Varun, he’ll say he was simply happy to be there. Some might call Gabby and Varun polar opposites. Gabby is a type A, independent, and straightforward New Yorker, while Varun is the definition of a chill guy from Buffalo. Yet they found a deep connection through their shared values, career goals, and love of spontaneity and adventure. One month into dating, they had already taken their first trip together (to Portland, Maine). Since then, they’ve gone glacier hiking in Iceland, taken salsa lessons in Puerto Rico, and sandboarded in Peru. It takes a special kind of commitment to survive five years of long distance, a global pandemic, and countless Amtraks and Greyhounds. From Boston to Buffalo to NYC, they eventually landed together in Philly where they welcomed their first child (fur child), Rosie. Now, nearly ten years, one home, and one very spoiled pup later, it only feels right to take the next step and tie the knot!
