One afternoon at the end of June, Ellen's phone alerted her to a notification from Hinge - "The App that's Meant to be Deleted." It was always intriguing when someone swiped right, but usually, after a few text exchanges or a dull date the intrigue disappeared. However, Kyle's communication style caught Ellen's attention, or maybe it was the fact that he didn't bug her with "good morning" texts. They chatted through the 4th of July and planned a date for the 11th. Kyle invited Ellen to an Indian Mexican fusion restaurant, and later to Fountainhead Taproom where they sipped mango beer. Within these first few moments together, they discovered they had similar interests and values. The room filled with their laughter and stories; hours went by and they discussed many topics such as Ellen's favorite books and Kyle's favorite science experiments. As the evening wrapped up, Kyle made his bold move; he smoothly caught her hand as they walked to her car and announced, “This was great, but I’m having Kidney Surgery. Would you be interested in a virtual date?” Ellen agreed, but thought, “He’s blowing me off, but what a creative excuse!” As Kyle continued to engage Ellen in conversation over the course of his surgery, she finally knew he was telling the truth and cleverly declared him as her “Kidney” Kyle (She does love her alliterations). Their appreciation for each other grew stronger as they ventured to Asheville to go camping after Bonaroo was rained out, hiked Cloudland Canyon, and meet each other's family and friends. Their love for each other developed over game nights and cooking extravaganzas. All of which culminated in one special trip to Greece, where Kyle asked her to marry him, and Ellen said “Yes!”.
