It was just a regular Thursday that happened to turn into the start of forever. Cambri was a regular at Bushwackers on college night, and Ethan was out with some friends. From across the bar, something about Cambri caught Ethan’s eye, and he decided to walk up to the stage where she was chatting with a couple of friends that, oddly enough, Ethan knew from different stages of his life. What could have been a random introduction quickly turned into an easy, natural conversation, and before they knew it, they were talking all night. When Cambri left, Ethan hadn’t asked for her number—but she couldn’t stop thinking about how effortless it felt to talk to him. Ethan was also thinking about her later, and decided to follow her on Instagram that night before going to bed — and the rest is history.
After seeing each other only on Thursdays at Bushwackers for about a month, they finally went on their first date. After a long text exchange—one that involved Cambri essentially asking Ethan out—they headed to the Old Market. They grabbed chai lattes at 13th Street Coffee and wandered through downtown Omaha, talking for hours. The night ended back at Ethan's dorm, where they sat in his car talking until 1 a.m..
From the beginning, Ethan was clear that he didn’t want to officially “date” until he started his second semester of school in February, wanting to be sure he could fully invest in a relationship. But by December, he had changed his mind. He took Cambri to dinner at Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse—calling it “casual,” which resulted in leggings and a sweatshirt—before heading back to her parents’ house to hang out. While watching The Grinch, Ethan looked over and said, “I don’t want to wait until February,” and asked Cambri to officially be his girlfriend.
After planning what she was convinced was a completely normal anniversary photoshoot with her best friend Chloe, Cambri had no idea it was actually part of Ethan’s proposal plan. Despite nearly canceling day-of because of the windy weather and gray skies, the session began like any other couples shoot at the Joslyn Castle. After a few classic poses, Chloe suggested they walk up the hill to take pictures under the arch at the front of the castle before the sun set. Between poses, Cambri glanced over and noticed something sitting on a nearby ledge and said, “What is that thing?”. In that moment, Ethan reached over, grabbed the box he had handmade, got down on one knee, and asked Cambri to spend the rest of her life with him. Through happy tears, she said yes—well, nodded yes—momentarily forgetting how to speak. They finished the rest of the session newly engaged! As a sweet reminder of God’s faithfulness, the only time the sun broke through the clouds and the wind settled all day was during the hour they were taking photos.
