How We Met

Sometime in 2009

We met at our church, World Harvest Church, when we both joined the youth group student leadership team. We worked together on quite a few projects in our teen years, and became the best of friends; even creating a group with our closest friends at the time and calling ourselves the Fantastic Four. We had an interesting friendship in those days. Even then we were very close and would have lots of deep conversations about our lives. We confided in each other in those times and did not know that our friendship would grow to be something more.

The Proposal

September 23, 2017

Kyle told me that Erin and Aaron had a "special surprise" for his birthday, and they wanted to go walking with us in downtown Woodstock. Kyle and I got dressed up to go to dinner; and he gave me one of the coupons that I made him for our first anniversary. It said something like, "Coupon to get all dressed up and have a fun night out". We got to the dinner spot and it was the same pizza place that I took him on our first anniversary and we ordered the same pizza. After we got done eating, we stopped off at the Copper Coin to pick up coffee for Aaron. We had parked our car in the ultra dreamy neighborhood behind the Downtown Woodstock storefront. Kyle and I spent a lot of time in that neighborhood walking and talking about the future and dealing with issues and problems; so it was a special place for us. When we got to the car, Kyle oddly put the coffee we purchased for Aaron in the car, picked up a winter coat and a book bag, and told me that Aaron and Erin were close so we needed to walk to meet them. I called Kyle out on wanting to carry a winter coat in 80 degree weather, and told him to put it back in the car; but he laughed and told me that there were precious things in the jacket and he didn't want to leave them in the car. We walked for not too long and I started to hear music, and I realized that it was a girl singing La Vie En Rose. I looked up over to the pavilion and Aaron was above us taking pictures. I suddenly realized that he was going to propose and I started to cry. Kyle led me up to the top of the amphitheater, where he had 25 balloons placed with 25 pictures of 25 memories that we had shared together. When we reached the top, Kyle gave me the biggest coupon, which said "GOLDEN TICKET. Use for anything but don't get creepy". He then asked if we could dance and we danced. Then he got down on one knee and proposed, and I said yes. It was such a special experience for the both of us; and it was even more meaningful because of how he proposed.
