How We Met

"So Get Excited"

In August of 2022, Aaron followed a quiet, persistent call from God and moved to Nashville. Within his very first month, he crossed paths with Pastor Neiman, who had just been brought on staff at The Belonging Co to oversee the young adults ministry—and Aaron stepped into the story, joining the team. Among them was a beautiful young woman helping with social media. The very first thing Aaron noticed about Kayla was her beauty—but not only that. It was the way she could hold a room, how her presence seemed to gather attention without asking for it, how effortlessly she captivated those around her. As time unfolded, they found themselves walking side by side, leading young adults in different capacities yet somehow always parallel—moving in rhythm without quite realizing it. Kayla would encourage Aaron in prayer, speaking life over how well he had done. They would linger in conversation at leadership retreats, talking about life, about purpose, about everything and nothing all at once. And all the while, Kayla had no idea that Aaron’s heart had quietly begun to lean toward her—he just knew he wasn’t ready yet. Then one summer, the week before his 26th birthday, God spoke to Aaron and told him that this birth year would be the year his love life would flourish—“so get excited.” Aaron didn’t yet realize how literal that promise would be, or how quickly it would begin to unfold. The night before his birthday, Aaron and Kayla found themselves at a friend’s event—just plus ones, seated at the same table, with no one else to talk to. What felt like coincidence was something far more intentional. That night, Aaron’s eyes were fully opened to the possibility in front of him. He didn’t realize until that moment that the woman he had been praying for was already there—sitting across from him. A woman marked by prayer, by faith, by creativity, and by a beautiful spontaneity. So he made a bold move—he asked her to dance. And as midnight arrived, Aaron stepped into his birthday not with noise or celebration, but with quiet wonder—dancing with the woman who would one day become his bride. What followed was the most serendipitous week of his life. Without planning it, without even realizing it at first, every day of that week unfolded with both of them in it. One plan led to another, and suddenly they were spending each day side by side, as if time itself had slowed to let something sacred take root. Since then, their story has been written in countless hours—long phone calls that stretch into the night, shared glasses of wine, laughter that comes easily, and dreams spoken out loud about the future they now imagine together.
