They first made eye contact at their high school graduation practice. Ashley was a transfer student her senior year. Chase had been going to D.H. Conley, and he sat in the row behind her at the graduation practice. Eventually they met through mutual friends.

They went on their first date to Little Washington to watch the fireworks, and had dinner at the restaurant "On The Waterfront".

They celebrated Christmas with his family in Halifax. The weather was beautiful for December. They spent the day shooting guns and riding around on his grandparents' land. After they finished opening presents, Chase and Ashley walked to the pond on the family farm to take pictures together. That's when Chase went down on one knee with the engagement ring asking her to spend the rest of her life with him.
