*Winter Is Here!*

T-22 Days and Counting...

Invitations have been sent, dresses have arrived, and pre-wedding events are soon to start. I have heard many brides say that the month before the wedding is the craziest, and I believe them. We have experienced our fair share of road bumps thus far, and we expect many more before we are through, but God is good. The closer our day gets, the more I realize just how many friends and family members God has given me who have encouraged and supported me through this process. Daniel, as I'm sure most of you know, is the sappy and romantic one between us, and he is so excited for December 29th to get here! I am definitely looking forward to it, of course, but I am most looking forward to already having our own home together and the adventures that are to come (both good and bad). There are a few celebrations before the ceremony day arrives, however. This Christmas will be my last as a "Henson" which seems somewhat bittersweet to me, and through all of the planning and the craziness, Daniel and I will look forward to the "calm before the storm". We are excited to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and usher in the new year as a new family with that message fresh on our minds and hearts. We hope you all are able to join us, and we both wish you all a very Merry Christmas! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

How We Met

(Her Version)

On July 4th 2010, I set foot in Washington for the first time. The first day was a blur of waterside festivities, sandcastles with toddlers, fireworks over the Puget Sound, and an inevitable evening storm. The second morning was my first service at Westside Baptist Church, and I was a little nervous about meeting so many new people. As I stepped out of the van, this tall stick of a boy ran down the front steps, greeted my cousin, invaded my personal space with an outstretched hand, and introduced himself as Daniel. After church that morning, I made my way up to the front piano hoping to get some practice time in (as was my custom) while everyone talked. Suddenly, I saw this same boy starting to play the piano, so I politely and quietly stood there waiting for him to finish...only he never did! He continued to play song after song from memory, and it started to wear on my nerves. Eventually, we started talking and getting to know a little more about each other, and he never really stopped talking. In fact, he is as chatty as ever, but I have come to love that. I have never met a more loyal person, and I would never have guessed that such a strange and skinny guy could have been the perfect match for me. God’s ways are higher, however, and I believe He certainly has a sense of humor! I’m so excited to see what else He has planned for us as Daniel and I start this new chapter in our lives.

How We Met

(His Version)

Jennifer came to visit her cousins one summer. I was “interested” in another girl until I saw her. I remember immediately walking up to her very professionally, sticking out my hand and saying “Hi, I’m Daniel!”. Afterwards, I sat at the piano talking with her and discovered she played piano as well. She had already met my sisters and brother a few days before at a July 4th party. A few days later, Jennifer baked cookies for my sister and asked me to pick them up. I couldn’t turn down this opportunity to see her again, so I accepted. When I got there, she invited me to stay for enchiladas. Again, I couldn’t pass this opportunity up. I’m still convinced we were set up by her cousins as there was a separate table all set aside for us. I started mentioning this other girl I was “interested in”; (really I was just in denial that I really liked Fur instead). I will never forget that, during that conversation which lasted about 4 hours, I told her to her face, “That’s ok, I will never marry you anyways”. After over-staying my welcome, I went home. We kept in touch over Skype and talked with each other every day for hours. God began to work in my heart and I quickly came to realize this is who God had picked out for me. After a year of talking back and forth, I called her on the phone and asked “So...hypothetically, if someone told you that they liked someone else, but really they liked a different person, what would you tell them?” Her response will always stick with me: “I would tell them, hypothetically speaking, that if you like me you should just tell me already, Daniel”. We became really close friends and continued to date/court through Skype and occasional visits until life got real tough being apart. I decided to make one of the biggest decisions of my life and move down to SC to further pursue my career and our relationship and future together for the next almost five years. The rest is history, and I can only say...”It’s about time!!”
