Jon and Katie met at their job at the time. Jon was working as a server at Applebee's and Katie started as a host. On Katie's first day, Jon walked up to her and introduced himself. Katie noticed how charming and good looking Jon was right away. They soon developed a friendship and Jon asked Katie out for a date. They had their first date at Applebee's (a different one) and the rest is history.

Jon proposed to Katie on her 30th birthday. They were gathered with her family, where she received a surprise visit from her brother and his family, who flew down from Idaho to see her on her birthday. She thought this was the only surprise for that night, however Jon had another plan. She was opening her birthday presents and while she was FaceTiming Jon's dad, she looked up and saw Jon down on one knee with a beautiful ring. Katie was shocked and couldn't believe her eyes. Jon asked Katie if she'd marry him, and she said yes!
