Sheila and Nick first "met" on an online Catholic dating website called AveMariaSingles.com in early May 2005, while Sheila was in California in graduate school and Nick was in Virginia on active duty in the Navy. After about eight and half months of emailing and the occasional phone call, their communication ended without them ever having met face to face. Then sometime in the summer of 2015, Nick looked Sheila up on Facebook and wrote to her. But since they weren't Facebook friends, the message went to Sheila's "message request" folder where it sat until January 2016. Sheila wrote back to Nick, but because Nick had deleted his original message to Sheila, her message went to his "message request" folder where it sat hidden until September 2016. By some serendipitous circumstance, Nick finally saw Sheila's message and wrote her back immediately. Two days later they became Facebook friends. Then in early 2018, Sheila and Nick began messaging each other and after a week they had their first FaceTime call where they "saw" each for the first time. After that, they made plans to finally meet in early April 2018 while Sheila was on vacation. Nick flew from Japan to Southern California and spent a week with her, and the rest is history...
Nick flew back to Southern California on June 27, 2018 and proposed to Sheila that very same afternoon before the altar of God in the Serra Chapel of Mission San Juan Capistrano where his grandparents where married on May 28, 1947.
