Even though we did not know it then, our love story began about ten years ago when we fancied each other at a friend's get together. After a smoldering conversation sitting on the hillside together, I reluctantly left to attend another mutual friend's party hoping Eekie would show up there as well. Unfortunately our paths did not cross again that night or for many years later. Social media and friends allowed us to keep tabs on each other, continuing to keep the interest alive. As the years passed, life events started to slowly lead us back to each other. With the help of our best friends reminding us every chance they could that we would be great together, Eek also finally had the courage to pursue his feelings of becoming a transwoman. One afternoon, while Kristi and I were enjoying our Starbucks and browsing in Target, I had to use the restroom. Thanks to Obama, this wasn’t just any restroom, but a gender neutral one. Lucky for me, the door opened while I was checking my teeth in the mirror, and I saw this beautiful blue-eyed specimen with his/her slender calves walk in. That is when we locked eyes and realized who the other was. It was also at this moment that Eek felt something move and realized he was not meant to be a woman. He showed me his abs and I was hooked. After our first date, it confirmed all of our feelings that had been lingering around the past ten years. We continued to get to know each other for the next few months and at the girls’ request, finally got to meet them too. It was just as easy falling in love with them as it was Eekie.
The ring finally came in! Have you guys seen that thing? I told everyone I was going to try to wait until spring, but that plan was shot the moment I showed the girls. I told Julia that the girls weren't able to come over that weekend, but really had them stay at my parents. Proposal Day. I woke up early and gave the excuse that I needed to "help my cousin Spike get a four wheeler for John's birthday". Luckily, we were also babysitting Julia's nephew which helped keep her distracted at home. Meanwhile I was out buying up all of the left over Valentines Day flowers for Mom and the girls to make bouquets. I told Julia at 11 we had to go to Stem's camp to help with the surprise. She said "No, you can go, its cold out. Henry and I will just stay here. I'll get him lunch and put him down for his nap". In a panic, I made up some excuse of us trying a new restaurant afterwards and letting Henry pass out in the car. It worked, and we headed over! We pulled in and parked at the bridge, I told her with all of the snow we had to walk over. As we were crossing the bridge, Julia says "Henry, look at all of these pretty flower pedals." scattered across the bridge leading to the girls on the other side holding flowers.... Still didn't put it together. She thought getting to see the girls was the surprise lol and started hugging them. They gave her the flowers and when Julia turned back around, that's when I got down on my knee and popped the question. Kenzie insisted on having to help me hold open the ring box. Julia said yes and was in such a state of bliss that it took her another five minutes to realize my parents had been hiding behind a tree photographing the moment for us. The End
