How we met

From Excel To Aisle

Their story began in Downtown Manhattan, at William Vitacco Associates—an ordinary office, on what turned out to be a not-so-ordinary day. Malachi had just come down from the fifth-floor supply room to grab some paper when he passed by the reception desk. That’s where HR stopped him. “Hey Malachi, this is Jillian! She’s going to be working in your department. Can you take her downstairs?” He knew the company had hired someone new, but he hadn’t expected her. The moment he saw Jillian, he was struck. She was beautiful—more beautiful than he’d imagined—and as a fellow Black professional in an industry where that was rare, he felt an immediate connection. So, he decided to be honest with her. Really honest. He pulled her aside and said, “Listen, the person you’re going to be working with… she’s kind of a bitch. Don’t take it personally. She’s brilliant—you’ll learn a lot from her. Just brace yourself.” That moment of unfiltered honesty stuck with Jillian. From there, something started to grow. Lunch breaks turned into little adventures as Malachi introduced Jillian to all his favorite food spots around the city. She loved them. Their conversations stretched into walks through Battery Park, across the Brooklyn Bridge, around City Hall Park—all the places where love tends to sneak in quietly. Their first official date was at Todd Hall, where they shared their first kiss. After that, things only deepened. They navigated a long-distance phase for a while—Jillian in New Jersey, Malachi in Queens. At first, Jillian wasn’t too confident driving, but soon she was crossing the Verrazzano Bridge like a pro. Malachi made the trip to Jersey, too. It was a lot of back and forth, but they made it work—with love and GPS. Then came a surprise twist: Malachi decided to leave the corporate world and go live and work on a farm. Yes, an actual farm—with dirt, bugs, and cows. Instead of questioning the move, Jillian supported him. She visited the farm, embraced the adventure, and made some unforgettable memories along the way. It was during this wild, off-the-grid chapter that they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. Eventually, Malachi moved to Atlanta. Jillian trusting Malachi’s judgment gave it a one-year test run… and then stayed for good. They moved in together and built a life side by side. Somewhere in between the unprovoked laughter, joyous moments, tough conversations, and everyday challenges of life, Malachi realized one simple truth: Jillian was the one. He proposed. She said yes. And now, here they are—inviting you to join them as they begin the next chapter of their love story
