The Drive from North to West Side May Take 2+ Hours
The island's main road is uniquely shaped like a backward "C," stretching from the North Shore to the West Side. The stunning Na Pali Coast mountains create a natural barrier, preventing a direct road connection between these areas. As a result, traveling from the North Shore to the West Side takes approximately two hours, allowing you to appreciate the breathtaking scenery along the way. The photo above shows the road in a dark blue.
The airport is in Lihue
The airport is in Lihue on the south east side of the island. Depending on where you stay, you may have a short or long drive from the airport to your accommodations.
The Reception will be held in Kapa'a
The reception dinner will be held in the city of Kapa'a on June 15th, 2025. We have chosen this location for a few reasons, one of them being the centrality of Kapa'a to the rest of the island. However, this may mean you still have up to a 40 minute drive to the reception depending on where you stay on the island.
Keep the Spirit of Aloha
While we are guests on the island and may notice that some aspects of the culture cater to tourists, there are many elements of Kauaʻi's culture that differ from those on the mainland. Locals deeply value ohana (family), aina (land), and aloha. Aloha goes beyond a simple greeting; it embodies love, compassion, and respect. This Aloha Spirit is essential to Hawaiian culture and is evident in the warm hospitality of the locals. Additionally, their strong emphasis on family values often leads to early shop closures, which may affect your dinner plans. It's a good idea to plan for earlier dinners, as many places tend to close around 5 or 6 PM. Always show respect for the wildlife and the land. Please refrain from touching turtles, approaching seals, or swimming at beaches where baby sharks have been spotted. While many of these animals, including sharks, are generally not harmful, locals often feel frustrated when tourists ignore signs and prioritize their own enjoyment over the well-being of the native wildlife.
