2016 - Present Melissa + John's paths crossed in 2016 at an office happy hour in Brooklyn, NY. They chatted and became friendly coworkers. Fast forward to 2017 in Whistler, BC, Melissa ran into John before work at a local diner (Southside Diner, highly recommend!) having her favorite, pancakes. She joined and they set up dinner plans at a local brewery that night. Was it a date? John says maybe. Melissa says no. Their friendship grew and they found each other on several trips thereafter enjoying conversations in La Quinta hotel lobby bars after long workdays in muddy fields in the middle of nowhere (how romantic!). John was in the friend zone and needed to get out - fast. It wasn't until a work trip in Chicago where things finally changed. A mutual friend (thanks, Trevor!) convinced Melissa to extend her stay for a game at Wrigley Field and drinks at Sluggers, a bar with dueling pianos and tunes. The group was having a blast and John saw a window of opportunity...was it liquid courage? Probably. He turned on his signature dance moves, thoroughly impressing Melissa with his expert salsa and two-step skills - a twirl, a dip, a kiss, and the rest is history. In 2019 when both were at crossroads in life moving across the country felt like a good idea - #WhyNot. Their apartment in Jersey City, NJ was packed up and shipped to Seattle for a new (temporary-ish) adventure. By 2020 they made it through years of friendship turned to romance, road trips, job losses, a cross-country move, career changes, a pandemic, and a puppy - safe to say they can make it through almost anything. John had grand plans for a mountain top proposal, but Seattle weather in December had other plans. He sent Melissa off to the spa and filled their apartment with candles for her return.
