The Senator John Heinz History Center is Pennsylvania’s largest history museum where you can see Smithsonian artifacts daily throughout six floors. Explore the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood exhibit, which includes the original living room set, puppets, and other iconic objects from the beloved children’s television show. Take a selfie next to an 11-foot Heinz ketchup bottle and learn about 150-year history of the H.J. Heinz Company. The museum’s flagship exhibit, Pittsburgh: A Tradition of Innovation, is where you can learn about Rosie the Riveter, the region’s contributions to the Apollo 11 moon landing mission, and how Pittsburgh transformed from a steel-making industrial powerhouse to a worldwide leader in technology, medicine, and education
Take a ride on the Monongahela Incline. It was built in 1870 by engineer John J. Endres, and has been in nearly continuous use for a century and a half. It was the first passenger funicular railway built in the United States. Added to The National Register of Historic Places in 1977, this icon of Pittsburgh history was built to transport workers up and down "Coal Hill" which was otherwise almost inaccessible from the city proper. "Coal Hill" is now known as Mount Washington.
The Strip, as it's called, is foodie heaven and as authentic as it is fun. Locals love it for its low, low prices and tremendous selections. The one-half square mile shopping district is chock full of ethnic grocers, produce stands, meat and fish markets and sidewalk vendors. Bordering Downtown, this neighborhood is pure Pittsburgh. Our favorite stores include Pennsylvania Macaroni Co, The Olive Tap, Allegheny Coffee & Tea Exchange, Wholey's, Mancini's Bread
Pittsburgh’s most memorable meal is at the North Shore Tavern, home of the Steak on a Stone. Signature meals are prepared and served on a 700-degree lava stone and finish cooking at your table. Located right next to PNC Park, this is a must stop destination for great drinks and amazing food and Pirates fans will enjoy the baseball memorabilia located throughout the restaurant.
