We have secured a hotel block at Grassmarket Hotel, which is where the coaches will pick up and drop off. Rooms are for two people, at £195.00 per night. Please email (groupreservations@scotsmancollection.co.uk) or call Grassmarket and use the code FRANKS/BLAIR Wedding or FRAN040425. That said, there are tons of options in Edinburgh at every budget. Premier Inn and Travelodge are good, generally affordable options, but there are also a number of boutiques if you want to try something more unique. If you have a car, there are also a number of lovely options near Newhall Estate itself. This includes the Craigie Hotel, Peggyslea Farm, and Pentland Cottages. Please let us know if you'd like the full list provided by Newhall.
Yes! We are arranging shuttles from the city to the event, and back again in the evening. The shuttle will pick up at the Grassmarket Hotel on Saturday at 12:45 pm. It will return to the Grassmarket Hotel in the evening.
We have recently realized that Americans and the English do not use the same words for the same dress codes, which is not particularly helpful here. The general theme is "formal." Ie: Suits, kilts or midi/floor length dresses are preferred. (A handful of folks have asked us about hats, which are more common at British weddings than in the United States. You are more than welcome to wear a hat/fascinator. If you don't know what we're talking about, don't worry, it's not required!) Scotland is cold and it will probably rain, so please come prepared. While the wedding events are inside, the estate grounds will be open for perusal. We will also be hosting a ceilidh, if this impacts your choice of footwear.
A ceilidh is a traditional Scottish folk dance. Don't worry, the band will call out everything that needs to be done! (And we won't make you do it if you don't want to.) For a preview of our band, go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRYmdFJBdEE.
We have two! Because shopping is complicated for people from so many places, here are some additional notes: One registry is a honeymoon fund through Zola (this is in dollars automatically; you can contribute in pounds). The second is through Borough Kitchen, which is a lovely London kitchenware store. If you are shopping in the US, make sure you read the note at the top of the registry to ensure shipping to our UK house.
