For those of you who don't know, we met online on JDate. Within a week of signing up, Frank reached out to me and wrote a lovely e-mail based on my profile. So, I thought, hmmm, he sounds interesting. let me check out his profile. I went to his profile and discovered that it basically told me nothing about him (it was a little generic!) and then I looked at his pictures which gave no insight into how he looked (for example, he was in a motorcycle helmet!). I even sent the profile to my sister because she said to me, you have to be able to tell something from his profile (she agreed with me that you couldn't!). But, there was something about the attention to detail in his e-mail that made me decide to reach back out to him (Frank's writing was not generic!). We agreed to meet at a restaurant inside a gas station, even though I tried to only meet him for a drink! I arrived early thinking I'll meet him at the entrance. However, to my surprise, Frank was already there and had positioned himself so he could see me arrive! We had a nice dinner with good conversation and after dinner, Frank walked me to my car and told me he'd call me the next day, I said "really?" which he found surprising. He told me he was a man of his word and that he would most definitely be calling me. He did and the rest is history!
So this one is another interesting story depending on who tells it, Sara or Frank. According to Sara, we were not together and I was back living in my house. Frank called and asked me what I was doing for my birthday which was a few days away. My original birthday plans got moved to the day before so I actually had no evening plans. I agreed to go to dinner with Frank. That night, he came to the house and had a present with him. Instead of leaving for dinner, he wanted to come inside so I could open his gift before we left for dinner. I thought this was a little strange as Frank typically waits until the end of the day to open birthday gifts. We went inside and Frank wanted to sit together on the sofa so I could open his gift. We sat and as I opened the very nicely wrapped gift, I noticed it was a dog sculpture that I had seen and liked when I was last in Vail with Frank. As I continued to unwrap the gift, I noticed that there was a custom collar around the dog's neck with a ring on it (very creative!). At this point, I became speechless and Frank proposed. I was truly at a loss for words as I was completely taken by surprise! Frank recognized that he had completely surprised me and suggested that we go to dinner and we could discuss it there (I was absolutely speechless!). So, we left for dinner where I found my voice again (about an hour later). I asked for a little time (remember, according to Sara we were not together when Frank proposed!) and we agreed to start working on us again. Frank then flew me out to Vail where we spent some time together (and he also told his family that we were engaged . . . nothing like a little additional pressure!). About 6 weeks later, I officially said yes! But, if you have Frank tell the story of our engagement, he is 100% convinced that we were together when we proposed and that I said yes the night he proposed!
