It all started with a gourmet Moon Pie, an 8-dollar bottle of wine and a whole bunch of Tom Waits’ music. Jen had been invited by a mutual friend to attend a rehearsal for a new Tom Waits tribute band. The drummer of that band was Frank and the rehearsal was at his house. Jen’s first words to Frank may have been “Do you like Moon Pies? Because this is the best Moon Pie I’ve ever had!” Frank did not, in fact, like Moon Pies but he took a big bite and agreed that it was the best thing ever. Jen cracked her bottle of red wine and proudly announced that it had been the best bargain at the wine store. As he played the drums, Frank couldn’t keep his eyes off the cute blonde-girl sitting in his living room eating her Moon Pie and drinking cheap red wine. Jen, as it turned out, had never heard of Tom Waits. Her presence at the rehearsal came from a desire to try new things and explore a different side of town. After the music stopped, they talked by the fire for hours. Eventually, he asked for her number. She gave it to him. The next day Frank texted her pictures of a film set he was working on covered in fresh movie snow, just as he promised he would. She was impressed that he remembered. He called. They went out. And they lived happily ever after.
