Michelle and John were always near one another - Michelle grew up in Elk Grove, John in Hanover Park. Michelle went to Conant High School, and John went to Schaumburg High School. They initially met in their early high school years, as their friend groups overlapped frequently. They just knew of each other mostly, rather than really knowing one another personally. They both went off to college - Michelle to Ball State University, John to Roosevelt and then Lewis to play soccer. Between their junior and senior years of college, in the summer of 2015, they ran into each other by chance. It was just before a Chicago concert (their love for music at the root of it all!) at a little convenience store downtown. It was a hot August day - John was stopping in to grab a gatorade, and Michelle forgot her sunglasses so she was looking for a cheap replacement. John was with his best friend, Drew Simon at the time. John and Michelle had a very brief interaction - a 'hi, how are you, good to see you' type of thing - and then went their separate ways. Immediately after, John told Drew he had a feeling there was a bit more to it than that. He must have been right, because it's been over 7 years since that fleeting moment and here we all are, getting ready to get them MARRIED!!
