A beautiful excursion showcasing the local flora and fauna. There are indoor exhibits followed by a nature walk through the Sonoran Desert. The whole tour takes two to three hours; offering a chance to see javalinas, hummingbirds, reptiles, and even a mountain lion!
A local staple for us Arizonans looking to escape the heat or even do some skiing! Mount Lemmon is a Sky-Island. You'll see what that means if you make the drive!. At roughly 9,100 feet of elevation, the hour-long drive to the top will stun you. From the grandiose views, to the ever-changing scenery, it will not disappoint. Take a hike or check out some local shops when you're there!
Do you like history, Westerns...or both? Then Tombstone is a place to see. The famous showdown took place less than two hours away. See where the Earp Brothers and Doc Holiday took on the Clanton-McLaury gang in a battle that was the quintessential "Wild West". The town is preserved to look as it did during the times of our forefathers. Visit and take a step back in time!
Mission San Xavier Del Bac was established in 1692 and is the oldest European-built structure standing in Arizona. Subjected to multiple Apache raids, and preserved by the local Tohono Oʼodham Nation on whose land the it stands, the mission is a testament to a people's perseverance of faith. It is a symbol of strength for both the Tohono O'odham Nation and Catholic Church; who both worked arduously to endure the brutish history of the area. Humble, yet vibrantly ornate, the mission and its neighboring Grotto Hill are a pilgrimage site for Catholics around the world. It is also where we attend Church with Nana and Tata; making it very sentimental!
East or West, both sides of Saguaro National Park have wonderful scenery and nature trails. Take the scenic driving tour on the East side for pristine views from the comfort of your vehicle! You have to pay an entrance fee during normal business hours. Ranger Rick goes to happy hour at 5 though (hint hint). Taking the scenic drive after 5 will provide you with arguably one of the best sunsets of your life. For those looking to take another national park off your bucket list, this one is 20 minutes away!
