How We Met

From Classmates to Soulmates — A Love That Crossed Borders

Our Love Story 💍✨ Picture this: 2013 - first year of college, in one random General Studies class, was one young man named Francis, who suddenly found himself very interested in the front row seats. From the moment he saw Maxine, the lecture was no longer the main event! He waited after class to “casually” ask if they could be friends. Smooth move. Simple enough, right? Except, he was too shy to ask for her number. Francis needed some Holy Spirit boldness and maybe a pep talk from the guys. 😂 So she slipped away. Fast forward to second year. God gave him another chance when he ran into her again. This time? Courage activated, Confidence slightly upgraded. The result? Number secured. Friendship deepened. He even asked her out! But… Maxine gracefully declined. We’ll let you sit with that for a second. Yes. Declined. Rejected. Sent him right back to the prayer room…but this time, not to ask God for boldness - to ask for alignment. For her heart to agree. But here’s the thing about destiny; it doesn’t clock out and neither did Francis. They stayed in touch for years. But then, life did what life does: Maxine moved to the U.S. after college, and Francis packed up for Germany to chase his master’s degree. Different continents. Different time zones. Same quiet connection. And then… one day… Francis tried again. This time, something had shifted. Maxine describes it best: “I don’t know, but it’s like the scales fell from my eyes.” He had been there all along. Kind. Consistent. Persistent, but in a cute and respectful way. And suddenly she saw what had been in front of her the whole time. But now came the real test: Distance! Different countries, different time zones. “What if it doesn’t work?” “What are the odds?” “Is this crazy?” So many “What ifs.” But they never gave up. And then, God stepped in. Francis got the opportunity to move to the U.S. for his second master’s degree and he took it. Because this time, purpose and proximity aligned. He’d be closer to Maxine. Even though they were still in different states at first, they kept showing up. Kept choosing each other. Kept believing. And now? Here they are. Not just in love. Not just engaged. But walking what we call a faith journey - where friendship became love, distance became testimony, and persistence became purpose. Turns out, when love has eyes… it also has timing. ❤️ “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11
