Back in High School, we made a pinky promise that 2 years after graduation we would catch up over coffee. Neither of us drank coffee at the time or knew where we would be at that point. After 2 years of little communication through a couple texts & letters, we started talking on the phone more and more while Ethan was in North Dakota. When he came home in January of 2016, 2 1/2 years after graduation, we went to my favorite coffee shop together in Ocean City, New Jersey (Even though Ethan still didn't drink it). Even though that was one of our first dates, we both knew at that point that we wanted to marry each other someday :)
Ethan told me he wanted to watch the sunset at our favorite beach in Delaware- Slaughter Beach. We picked up Wawa for dinner and walked along the beach to find a spot to sit and eat it. Ethan had brought a giant bag with us on to the beach (which made me suspicious, but he was always doing over the top stuff like that). We sat on a blanket to eat our Wawa as I went on and on about my week and Ethan remained unusually quiet. Without finishing his food, he went to get something out of his bag and I thought it had to be a ring- but he whipped out a gallon of my favorite ice cream and gave me a "Fries before Guys" mug to eat it out of (He was always getting me new mugs for my collection). We sat a little longer to eat that, and again before I could finish, he says, "Wait, I gave you the wrong mug", and goes to his bag to get something else. He handed me a mug to unwrap (which I did a little too quickly apparently) that says "He put a ring on it", as he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring box. I can't even remember what he said or if he said anything because I said YES immediately. :)
