House Or Rental
Airbnb
If you're on a budget (or a grad student's salary), we'd recommend renting an Airbnb outside of River North and taking a quick Uber to the venue. Rachel lived in West Town before moving to Ann Arbor (and Steve spent many, many weekends with her there) - it's a great, affordable option that's still only ~10 minutes from downtown by Uber. Otherwise, take a look in Wicker Park, Logan Square, or Lakeview for other affordable options in wonderful neighborhoods.
Flight
O'Hare Airport
O'Hare is the biggest airport servicing Chicago and will have the largest flight selection. If you fly into O'Hare (especially around rush hour) we recommend taking the CTA Blue Line downtown to save you money, time, and a headache. Just follow the signs in the airport to the CTA and take the train downtown (the Clark/Lake stop is closest to the venue and recommended hotels). You can pay for the CTA with Apple Pay or get a single-use CTA pass at the airport. If you want to take an Uber it may cost around $50-80 depending on surge pricing.
Flight
Midway Airport
Midway is the other option for flights and is a Southwest hub. It's about equidistant from downtown as O'Hare so if it works better for you, go for it! You can also get downtown on the CTA from Midway - just take the Orange Line from the airport and the State/Lake stop is closest to the venue and recommended hotels. You can pay for the CTA with Apple Pay or get a single-use CTA pass at the airport. If you want to take an Uber it may cost around $50-80 depending on surge pricing.
Train
Amtrak
Rachel is an Ann Arbor to Chicago Amtrak veteran - if you're coming from Michigan and don't want to drive it's a great option! If you book a couple weeks out it is $40 each way from Ann Arbor. The train arrives in Chicago about a ~30 minute walk from the venue and the recommended hotels but if you don't want to do the walk with your bags it's easy to get a cab for about $10.
