We met the night before Hayden’s 24th birthday in downtown Huntsville—on a night that almost didn’t happen. Hayden’s trip abroad had been canceled at the last minute, and Alex had come in from out of town. We introduced ourselves… and promptly forgot each other’s names. Hayden remembered how tall he was and how impossibly blue his eyes were. Alex remembered her bright red shirt.... Somewhere between Hayden serenading Alex with “Baby” by Justin Bieber and Alex bravely attempting to ride a mechanical bull for approximately half a second, something clicked. It wasn’t subtle. They were hooked. One month later, Hayden packed up and moved to Nashville to pursue her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy. Distance tried its best, but it never stood a chance. Late-night calls, long drives, and a lot of love turned long-distance into just another part of their story. Fast forward 2 years, June 2025, and the idea of hiking Noccalula Falls kept coming up. What Hayden didn’t know was that Alex had been planning something big—he had asked her parents for their blessing and had the ring waiting since March. What Alex did know was that Hayden kept postponing the hike…. (Unknowingly, she was delaying her own proposal.) Finally, the weekend arrived. They took the hike. Just the two of them. A waterfall rushing in the background. And in that quiet, beautiful moment at Noccalula Falls, Alex got down on one knee and asked Hayden to spend forever with him. She said yes. It was romantic. It was playful. It was perfect. And it was always meant to be. 💍💙
