We had both just moved to California from different states, and it was the first day of Anthropology class at a local community college. I decided to head to the bathroom before class and as I tried (in my opinion) to open an unreasonably heavy bathroom door, James walked by to offer his assistance with a giggle. To continue the embarrassment as I went to find a seat I noticed he was in my class. About 2 weeks later he changed his seat to directly behind me, and that was the beginning of our friendship.
James already had the ring for a few months while trying to figure out the perfect way to propose. When my newest niece was born I flew to Texas in January to see her and the rest of the family, while James stayed behind for work. During my visit there we decided to do a family dinner at a Mexican restaurant that kept Christmas lights up late in the year because well, as most know, I am annoyingly obsessed with Christmas. As I was standing in the hallway of the restaurant waiting for someone to come take a picture with me I heard Jame's voice behind me "Hey, you.", then I turned around to see him on one knee as he asked me to marry him. Well, I kinda saw him, my vision got pretty blurry. Little did I know my best friend Lily and her husband Josue had picked up James from the airport the day before and hired a photographer to document the entire thing! It was the most perfect moment being surrounded by the people I love while he asked me to be his wife.
