As told by Wil: "I first saw Vee on the school bus back in high school. I thought she was very beautiful, and I wanted so bad for her to sit with me, but her sister, Courtney was assigned to the seat I sat on. Vee was assigned to the seat across from us with another student. They would always talk, and she would flash her pretty smile. I know this sounds bad, but I envied guy that sat next to her because I wanted to get to know her. I wanted to ask Courtney to switch seats with Vee, but thought she would get an attitude and I aint have time for it. I felt like I had missed a chance to get to know her. As the semester went on, I noticed that she was in my favorite teacher's (drafting/ autoCAD) class with my cousin. I would cut lunch to get the opportunity to go to visit my cousin, but would always find a way to sneak over to Vee's desk. I would help her with her assignments and flirt with her until I stole her phone number JUST IN CASE she shot me down if I asked for it. Thankfully, she wasn't mad. I was just happy that I got to talk to her all the time. The past decade with Vee has been nothing short of amazing. She has always shown me different alternatives in the storms that life threw in our way. Storms where I might have been lost without her by my side, but Vee would always find a way to lift me up and see the positive. Vee has helped me to better myself, and the people around us. She has inspired me to travel, to get involved, and to seek different perspectives of the world. She has shown me love, but I have always admired how she show love and compassion to others. God has truly blessed me. I really love her."
As told by Vee: "I remember that we had to ride the bus together. I had already admired Wil from those freestyles where he had dissed his friends. I thought he had a nice lil flow. Anyway, we had assigned seats on the bus and the bus driver had misspelled my name. Instead of “Alvita”, she had written “Aluta”. Wil would call me Aluta every chance he got and of course, it got on my nerves.I didn't mind cause I liked when he would use it to strike up a conversation. Plus, I wasn’t too fond of his name either. I always thought “Wilbert” was way too mature for him. As the semester went on, I would see Wil on his lunch break coming to my class to visit his cousin. This was a class relating to engineering and mechanics and drafting and other stuff that I could not grasp conceptually. Luckily, Wil always came over to visit me to help me with my assignments or he would do them completely and annoy me after. He would do things like let my computer chair down without warning and would laugh at my reaction or he would steal my phone when I wasn’t paying attention to the assignment. Looking back on it, I’m glad he stole my phone number. Those were great memories with Wil back in high school. Life definitely got real after that. Through college careers, job changes, distance, etc., Wil was always by my side keeping me positive whenever I felt like some inconvenience was too much for me to deal with. He never wavered and was always there to listen, and to ground me. Even though I have a special place in my heart for education, the best lessons have been taught by him. Taxes, eyeballing measurements, PATIENCE, having faith, whatever that ticking noise is that I hear from my car, I could always count on Wil to be there for me. I thank God often for sending me someone as great as him. Proud to be the future Mrs. Wilbert Fitzgerald, Jr."
1.) When: February 14th, 2018 2.) Where: Tybee Island, GA on the pier. 3.) On the way to the beach, Wil surprised Vee with a jazz (one of their favorite genres) version of her favorite song, Lost Without You, with her favorite instrument leading it, the saxophone. 4.) They went to Wet Willy's to eat and grab a couple of drinks. Afterwards, Wil decided to take Vee onto the pier where they both reminisced about the good and the not-so-good times of their relationship while slow dancing with the jazz version of Lost Without You playing on a loop in the background. 5.) Favorite quote said by Wil to Vee before the big moment: "I told you: From the very beginning, I was serious about pursuing you."
