How we met

From Freshmen to Forever

Chris and I lived in the same dorm freshman year at High Point University. My suite mate actually knew him from Maryland and once she showed me who he was, I knew I had to meet him! Halloween, my suite mate texted him to see if we could come down to his room to hang out which he THANKFULLY said yes! We were all in our Halloween costumes (I was dressed as a racecar driver) and when we walked in Chris and his roommates were playing video games. From that point on, we started getting to know one another and spent almost everyday together. On the night of January 16, he asked me to be his girlfriend and of course I said yes. 4 years flew by at HPU and we never really spoke about what was next but we knew we would make it work. Chris went on his little bike trip after we graduated (just across the country LOL!) and I was working back home in NJ. My job thankfully had positions open up in DC so when they offered me one about 45 minutes from where Chris grew up/was living, I knew this was our opportunity to really start our future together. In the summer of 2016, we moved in together in Edgewater where we fell in love with being on the water and of course our furry baby girl Nala.

The Proposal

In the summer, Chris and I spend almost everyday out on the water. Whether it be fishing, crabbing or relaxing we are out as much as possible! I got off of work on Friday, Sept. 7th and Chris wanted to go out because the weekend looked like it was going to rain. He said we could do a little crabbing and then go to Happy Hour at a bar on the water that we go to often. (side note-I had decided to not drink alcohol for 2 weeks which Chris said I wasn't going to last. I said he could have a beer but I wasn't going to!) There were thunderstorms that were supposed to hit us that night but the skies looked decent (I'm a freak when it comes to going out on the water with a dark cloud!) so I said let's go! We boarded our boat and checked the pilings for crabs and caught a few. Meanwhile I can see the storm coming behind us so I start getting nervous and checking the radar. We decided to just go on a cruise down the river and then go by car to the bar. We got out to the mouth of the river and I saw there was a black boat parked at a pier, which I thought was the marine police. He stopped in the middle of the river and that's where he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Of course I said yes! He then popped a bottle of Champagne so the 2 week no drinking went right out the window! The boat that I thought to be the marine police was actually Chris's parents taking pictures/videos of us! It was the perfect proposal on our boat.
