How We Met

Williamstown, MA - Summer 2015

He went by "Boomer". It was his 4th year at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and everyone knew him. She was a first year stage management intern and knew absolutely no one. They were both working on the musical, yet hardly crossed paths. The whole summer passed and neither said a word to each other. Fast-forward 2 years and both are living in NYC, successfully working in the theatre industry- Brad as a Moving Light Programmer and Mariah as a Stage Manager. Admittedly, both had forgotten about the other until they happened to bump into each other again thanks to mutual friends. After a few awkward encounters Mariah finally found the courage to send Brad a message: "Funny seeing you here". Yes friends, that was the best pickup line Mariah could think of... Good thing it worked! From that message on they started talking nonstop. There wasn’t a day that passed where they didn’t speak to each other. But despite the constant conversation and obvious connection, they still hadn't found the time to go on an official date! So, almost 7 months later Brad and Mariah finally found a corresponding day off and actually went on a date; a real, true date! They went to brunch at a quiet little spot uptown called Indian Road Cafe. It quickly became a favorite spot. They have been going on brunch dates ever since :)

The Proposal

Portland, ME - April 7th, 2019

It was the first warm day of spring and Brad and Mariah were in their favorite place, Portland, Maine. Their time in Maine was limited so they were going to make the most of it. They had day 1 planned - lunch at their favorite sandwich place, a quick visit to the Portland Head Lighthouse, then off to dinner at Honey Paw. Little did Mariah know, Brad had a little more in store for the afternoon. When they arrived at the lighthouse, the sun was shining and the wind had just calmed down. It was perfect weather to go for a walk. They started down a path they had never been on before. It followed the edge of the cliff and had a beautiful view of the ocean. About 5 minutes in, Brad asks to stop at a bench that overlooked the water and had a great view of the lighthouse so they could take their traditional 'Portland selfie'. They step off the path and prepared to take the photo but before either of them had a chance to ready their phones Brad took Mariah’s hand and started to tell this beautiful story about how he had taken a trip to The Vineyard to ask her parents if he could marry her. Before she knew it, Brad was on one knee asking if she would be his forever love. Through crocodile tears, Mariah said yes! And just when Mariah thought the surprises were over, down the hill came both her parents and his, followed by his sister and his niece. It was the most magical day. It was a perfect day spent with the people who love them most.
