It was a random Freshman night when my friends and I decided to go to our first ISA bowling night. Foram was on the E-board and volunteered to give rides from the student center, and I was one of her passengers in the back. This was my first time meeting Foram and she was kindly making small talk to welcome us to ISA and TCNJ. For some reason, this night always sticks out even though I’m pretty sure she had no clue who I was or if I even carpooled with her that night (until I of course told her about this the night I finally asked her out…but let’s not jump too far ahead just yet). The more I asked around, the more I found out that she was the beautiful, smart, and cool upperclassman who was just enjoying life. And she was single! But I always considered myself shy (I know the TCNJ crew is probably laughing at that) and I was totally kidding myself that I would have a chance with her – someone totally out of my league. Luckily, there were plenty of chances on campus to get to know each other once I finally mustered up the courage to talk to her. Before you know it, a whole year flew by and I knew she was the one. I asked her out one November evening in Princeton and the rest is history.
One weekend in early November, we were all getting ready for our friend's "birthday brunch" in Philadelphia. Little did I know that this was all an elaborate excuse to get me dressed up for the weekend! It was early on a Saturday and Kunal and I were at my house getting ready to leave for Philly. I was rushing and packing for the weekend. The whole time, Kunal was trying to speed up the process and I was starting to get irritated. "So what if we're a little late for this birthday? It'll be fine!" I kept saying. Thankfully for Kunal, on the way down to Philly, I fell asleep in the car so I had no idea that he had veered far off the usual route and taken us towards the Wissahickon Trail. When I woke up, I was pretty confused to be in the middle of a park on the coldest day of the year. Somehow, Kunal sweet talked me into leaving the car and walking along the creek to take some pictures. We came to an area near the water and I started to notice candles, flower petals, lights and a picture of us all set up next to a tree. I began to think that this may not be a birthday celebration after all. As I was taking this all in, I realized Kunal was starting to give a little speech - while some of this becomes a blur I sure do remember him getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him! He pulled out a box with the most perfect ring and I said yes! (obviously) Suddenly, I heard a loud scream. Many of our close family and friends had been hiding and watching from afar and they came rushing out to meet us! It may have been the coldest, windiest day of the winter but that paled in comparison to the warmth and love we felt from our family and friends that afternoon.
