Derric and Folu, are both originally from the cultured and amazing city of Oakland, California. In the Summer of 2016, both not knowing each other, met at a very close friend’s house (Ms. J Ferdinand). There in the living room over pizza and watching Basketball Wives, Folu and Derric exchanged brief words with no real idea of what would happen next. Derric later inquired with Jasmine about the relationship status of Folu. A little nervous, Folu agreed to a group date. The group date was a success and the two made later arrangements to go on their first one-on-one date in their local city; Sacramento, California. Derric was new to Sacramento as he recently moved to the city Spring of 2016. The first one-on-one date was fun and Folu was very impressed. But, still not expecting much, the two mostly talked on the phone daily (that 90s old school love), as Derric commutes an hour and a half for work. So the two mostly spent their time on the phone getting to know one another. For the whole Summer of 2016, Derric called Folu every break (well at least it seemed like every break to Folu). Derric also called Folu on his drive home from Oakland to Sacramento. At this point, Folu’s crush grew for this pretty cool man with some pretty cool kids to deep feelings. The two became a modern day brady bunch as they continued to date along with their “long- distance” phone calls. Folu and Derric became official the weekend of their first Thanksgiving together in 2016. From the beginning Derric knew Folu was the one, he just wanted to wait for the right opportunity to propose. After time and careful consideration he planned his perfect proposal. There were many ideas he had, even an elaborate party in Oakland at the restaurant of their first group date. In the end he pulled off the most romantic gesture by driving 648 miles to Portland, Oregon to surprise Folu while she was on vacation with friends. There in Portland, on July 8, 2017, Folu accepted his love over Facebook Live.
