How the adventure began....

Friendship is our foundation

Over a decade ago we met in high school. We were in a program called Business Academy which meant we shared most of our classes. After graduation, we went our separate ways. Kathie moved to Los Angeles and Amanda joined the Navy. Despite the distance, the friendship always remained strong. No matter how long it had been from our last conversation, we always picked up where we left off. In 2009, Amanda returned from living abroad and we began hanging out more frequently. Hour long conversations became normal and nothing was ever off topic (we’re still deciding if that was a good thing). Then began the adventures. Our first major trip was to New York. We celebrated new years and started a tradition of taking one big trip every year. As the years went on we became closer. Our friends and family started suspecting something was going on between us. It was such a ridiculous claim that at times we argued about it (#denial). Then one day at a concert we kissed. Following that moment we could no longer deny what was so apparent to those around us…..we were falling in love. It was far from a fairy tale and it took years to figure out how to transition from best friends to being in a relationship. Although it was very unexpected, it turned out to be the best decision we ever made. We are excited for this moment and look forward to this new adventure.

The adventure we will never forget....

The Proposal

Kathie's version: For my 31st birthday, I wanted to go to a place that has been on my bucket list. We packed our bags and headed to Grand Canyon with some of our family and friends. After a grueling hike which lasted half of the day, we arrived at our campsite to shower and prepare for the festivities. Underneath the stars and surrounded by wildlife, we ate dinner while Amanda set up a projector. The plan was to watch scary movies while making s'mores. After many failed attempts to get the projector and sound to work, our friend was able to save the day. On the screen an image appeared that said ‘Happy Birthday Kathie!’. Amanda had created a birthday montage video which had my friends and family wishing me a happy birthday. The messages ranged from Kuwait, Ohio, Texas, Nevada and Washington. At the end of the video, Amanda stood up and thanked everyone for making it out to celebrate my birthday. She called me up to stand by her side while she finished addressing our friends and family. Amanda ended her speech with "A wise person once said in a lifetime you will only get very few true friends and if you are smart you will marry the best one." At first it did not register what she said until I looked down at my side and saw Amanda down on one knee with a ring. She asked me one of the most important questions of my life "Will you marry me"? Once I was able to speak, I said YES! Amanda's version: She said YES!!!
