Tyler and Sydnee met in the fall of 2022 at Taylor University when Tyler moved onto First West Wengatz, Sydnee's brother wing at school. They spent the year just friends, getting to know each other at bro/sis events, Airband practices, and many McDonald's runs. In April 2023, Sydnee asked Tyler to be her date to Third West Olson's annual Swing Dancing Pick A Date. What they both thought would be just an evening of dancing with friends was the beginning of Sydnee realizing she may have feelings for Tyler. With two of her friends encouraging Sydnee that it was no big deal and her feelings would go away over the summer, Sydnee and Tyler went back home after the school year just friends. Not even a month after summer break had begun, Tyler invited Sydnee to his house along with some of their other friends for a pool day, and of course Sydnee immediately said yes. After making a once in a lifetime basket in a very serious game of 3x3 basketball in the pool, Sydnee impressed Tyler and they talked every day the rest of that summer. As a result of losing a bet at the end of the summer, Tyler agreed to take Sydnee to Chappy's (her favorite spot in college) once they got back to school in August. After that came many walks around the loop, Chappy's runs, and hours of conversations which always ended in very serious debriefs between Sydnee and her friends. In September 2023, Tyler took Sydnee on their first official date to Topgolf and Shake Shack in Indianapolis and he played Ben Rector the whole car ride back (which was Sydnee's favorite artist). Shortly after that on October 5, 2023, Tyler asked Sydnee to be his girlfriend. The next two years consisted of countless memories made like their many dates to Biaggi's (their favorite restaurant), Tyler flying to Colorado to visit Sydnee during a summer internship, Sydnee's first Cubs game, and more. Towards the end of Sydnee's senior year they had many conversations about their future together. In June 2025 they spent a Saturday afternoon ring shopping and from that day the secret planning of their engagement began. While Sydnee spent a lot of time wondering what the engagement would be like, Tyler intentionally planned all of the details. On October 17, 2025, just after celebrating their two year anniversary a couple weeks prior, the happiest day came! Tyler took Sydnee to Biaggi's for dinner, a place they always went to for special occasions. Afterwards, they went back home to his parents' house when Tyler suggested that they should go out back to the meadow. It was there that Tyler proposed and Sydnee said yes!
