Our Love Story

From Childhood Churchmates to Soulmates: A Love Story 20 Years in the Making

Once upon a time in a bustling children's church in Nigeria, a young boy named Folarin first laid eyes on the chatty, spirited girl who would unknowingly capture his heart for decades to come. Ofure was that girl—always cheerful, always talking, and always finding new ways to get on Folarin’s nerves. Yet, somehow, he found himself absolutely smitten. The two were family friends, which meant they saw each other frequently. But to Folarin, these encounters were never frequent enough. From the moment he met her, his young heart was set on one goal: to make Ofure his girlfriend. Finally his 12 year old heart, after weeks of planning and pep talks in the mirror, he decided he would ask her the very next Sunday. But fate had a plot twist in store. That Sunday, just as Folarin was mustering up the courage to pop the big question, Ofure and her family showed up at his house with news—big news. Her mom and siblings had come to bid Folarin’s family a final farewell. They were relocating to the United States... that same week. Heartbreak doesn’t begin to describe it. His dreams of young love vanished faster than a Sunday sermon. All Folarin could do was watch helplessly as Ofure left with her family, the words he’d planned to say hanging like unfinished lyrics in the air. As they left his house that day, he consoled himself with a promise: "I’ll relocate one day and marry her." And here we are, twenty years later, witnessing a promise fulfilled. What started in a children’s church in Nigeria comes full circle today, proving that sometimes, life’s sweetest love stories are worth the wait.
