In early summer 2023, two swipes forever changed our lives. We met on the dating app Bumble and once we matched, Brock waited anxiously for Folami to reach out, since the app only allowed women to make the first move. To his relief and excitement, she messaged him within the first few hours. A few days of consistent and intriguing messaging led to Brock asking for Folami’s number. Having proved that we were both in fact real, our first FaceTime conversation lasted nearly 2 hours, and the undeniable connection carried us to our first in-person date. It was a comedy show in DC, and Folami enjoyed herself because the comedian was hilarious, and it didn’t hurt that Brock was taller and more attractive than she originally thought. Brock quickly got over Folami being 10 minutes late and enjoyed the fact that he was with the most beautiful and brilliant women in the room. The date continued with conversation over a Mexican dinner and by the end, the spark was clear. We spent more and more time together throughout the summer going to state fairs and Library of Congress outdoor screenings. Once August rolled into September, we were officially a couple falling in black love. With Folami in the final years of her medical training and Brock pushing ahead with his graduate studies, our romance blossomed. Our date nights were as plentiful as the flowers Brock brought Folami. We frequented restaurants and speakeasies throughout the DMV and were no strangers to plays and concerts (our favorite being Lauryn Hill and the Fugees). When we sought more relaxed plans, we chilled at home, watched movies and shows, and held our ever important “gray table talks” that affirmed our romantic, spiritual and political alignment. We even shared the blessing of joining New Bethel Baptist church together. In DC, our devotion felt designed by the ancestors, yet it was our shared wanderlust that showed our love knew no borders. Although, our first trip together was to New York for NYE 2024, it was during a winter getaway to Harper’s Ferry that we both knew that we had found "the one”. Harper’s Ferry confirmed that love was our foundation, and it launched us into romancing all over the world. Our first trip abroad was to Montego Bay, Jamaica, followed by amazing couple's trips to the Dominican Republic, Spain, and Portugal. Not all of our trips centered around our growing love. Some nurtured the love we have for our friends and family. Brock went to Folami’s family reunion in Beaufort and Charleston, South Carolina, where he was fully embraced, and came to love the deep history and low country living. Folami joined Brock’s family on their Christmas vacation to Orlando, becoming kids again at Disney World and Universal Studios and for spring break in breezy Barbados. No matter where we ventured or who we were with, it was clear to all that our love was meant to be. On August 29, 2025, Brock proposed to Folami at City Center DC with only the lights that adorned the trees and the photographer capturing our most intimate moment. Brock recited a poem he’d written just for her but remembers nothing else besides getting on one knee and proposing. Folami was overjoyed and so surprised that she could barely hold her hand still for Brock to place the ring on her finger. With the ring secured on her finger, our commitment to a lifetime of everlasting love took flight. We hope you will join us as two become one on October 4th 2026!
