I happened to stumble upon John's profile on a dating app we were both using. Reading through his information made me laugh because none of it made any real sense. I could tell, just like me, he didn't expect much out of this 'dating' app. However, I gave it a shot, and messaged him anyway. It's a good thing I did.
We talked through text and phone calls for a little while before we finally decided it was time to meet. He was on his way back to his place at Odessa at the time from his parents house. We decided to grab some coffee and chat. So, we met each other at a Starbucks in Abilene. We talked for at least two hours before we went our separate ways. I told my mom on my way home that, 'I was going to marry that boy.' John asked me to be his girlfriend when we met for dinner in Big Spring on July 28th.
I met John in Big Spring, where he had moved earlier in the month, for dinner and to carve pumpkins. We decided to grab some food from KFC and take it to the park. We had eaten and began carving our pumpkins. John finished first and carved a nice looking pumpkin. I followed with my not so impressive looking pumpkin. John wanted to get a picture of both our pumpkins, but informed me that his phone started doing an update. So, I would have to get up to take the picture. I didn't really want to get up, but I did it anyway. John arranged the pumpkins as I worked to pull up the camera app on my phone. As I scrolled through the apps on my phone, I heard John ask, 'What's this?' When I looked up, he was pulling a ring out of my pumpkin. For a split second, I didn't realize what was happening. I thought, 'that wasn't in my pumpkin a minute ago.' Then it hit me. John brought the ring closer to me, and he asked, 'Will you marry me?' Of course I said, 'yes!'
