Floyd started as a student at UW-Madison in September of 1971. He was encouraged to attend by his cousin, Richard Harris. Floyd hailed from Gary, Indiana. I was accepted to UW-Madison to begin the Spring Semester of 1973. However, my older sister, Felicia started in the Fall of 1972. Felicia's Dorm and Floyd's Dorm were in close proximity so they became friends along with other students I knew on the campus. Knowing that I would be attending in the Spring, I decided to visit the campus on the weekends and visit with Felicia and other friends. It was my sister who introduced me to Floyd. Initially, I wasn't interested (partly because I had a long-time boyfriend from high school). Floyd was persistent and invited me out for my birthday in November of 1972. We begin talking and spending a significant amount of time together when I visited the campus. During the winter break he visited Milwaukee for the first time and met my family. We continued to talk and when I finally got to campus that January we continued to date. By then, I had broken things off with my boyfriend from high school. Floyd and I were inseparable and by April 9th, 1973 during a major snowstorm we "got engaged." This was historic!!! Ours was a short engagement, we planned (our families did the work) and scheduled our wedding for Saturday, August 18th, 1973 one of the hottest days (83) of the season. So, here we are 50th years later, during Winter (we've weathered many storms), Summer (we sizzled and we still do), Spring (sprung forward) and Fall (fell backyards). Through it all we made it.
