Grandfather Mountain State Park
Visit Grandfather mountain for breathtaking views, stunning panoramic views from the famous Mile High Swinging Bridge, sip local wines at Grandfather Vineyard & Winery, and explore some of the most scenic hiking trails in the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Can you spot the face on Grandfather Mountain?)
Boone
Boone is a picturesque mountain town voted America's best small mountain town in 2025. Here, you can wander historic downtown King Street for local restuarants and boutiques. For family-friendly fun, ride the Tweetsie Railroad or explore underground at Linville Caverns. Don't forget to stroll through the scenic App State campus while you’re here (Madison's alma mater...roll neers). Original Mast General Store
Take a step back in time with a visit to the original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis. Opened in 1883, this landmark still feels like an old-fashioned country store—you’ll find everything from classic candies and local goods to outdoor gear and rocking chairs on the porch. It’s a charming slice of mountain history and well worth the stop!
Blowing Rock
Blowing Rock is known for its charming downtown filled with boutiques, art galleries, and antique shops—perfect for a leisurely afternoon stroll. From upscale clothing and home décor to handmade crafts and mountain souvenirs, there’s something for everyone. Stop at Shoppes on the Parkway for more. The town of Blowing Rock, North Carolina is named after the rock formation, "The Blowing Rock", which is located on the edge of the John's River Gorge in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. This immense cliff overlooks the gorge, providing sweeping views of the surrounding peaks and forests, a must see!

Beech Mountain
Known as one of North Carolina’s top ski destinations, Beech Mountain has plenty to offer in the warmer months too!
