Let’s Go to the Beach!

a story about a couple of Florida kids

Our story started online at OkCupid.com. Yep, we lived only eight miles apart but we met on an actual website. We matched in the last few days of March 2016 and messaged through the site/app for a while, soon graduating to texting. After two very long weeks of this, we had our first date at Disney Springs on April 15th. He wore new skate shoes and spelled his last name for her. She couldn’t tear herself away until midnight, despite an early schedule the next morning. There were sparks and butterflies everywhere!! On our second date, we met for dinner at Chili’s. We talked until the bar lights came on, then confessed in the parking lot that we didn’t want the night to end. Kyle shrugged and said, Let’s go to the beach! Jennifer (still not completely convinced of this stranger she’d found online) decided she might be safe if they took her car and she was driving it… so she agreed. Getting to Tables Beach (that’s its real name!) after midnight, we reclined side by side in the sand, shivering in the cool salty sea breeziness of late April. We talked about dating, personality differences, and finding a happy balance between being adventurous and playing it safe. Because he is the one way and she prefers to do the other. She said, I can be talked into adventures. He seemed to think a cautious partner could be good for someone with an underdeveloped sense of danger. We both laughed at that, but it’s proven so true for us! It’s been a lot of fun learning about our differences and chasing that balance in the years since that special night. We travel, we chill, we work, we play. We’ve moved at our own pace, and we’ve arrived here together. In another special April just some months ago, we went to see the most beautiful beaches in the world, in the Exumas of the Bahamas. We sailed a tiny vessel to another shore with a silly name, Flip Flop Beach. We floated together in some perfectly shallow water and became engaged. There was never a question about where we would get married. Salty, sandy, Florida paradise! Let’s go to the beach!!
