We have lived parallel lives! We were born and raised in the same hometown, Fayette, Ms. We graduated from the same high school one year apart. We have many of the same associates and friends, but we were never in each other's circles. We knew each other but never had a personal encounter or interaction. We are not done yet with this parallel life thing. We both moved to the Jackson area years ago, frequented the same spots, and literally never crossed paths. Our families were connected for many years, even before we were born, but we never connected. Fast forward to 2019. We both faced major changes in our lives and decided to focus on God's will and happiness. And then the world shut down, and all hopes of happiness seemed dim. Well, as the pandemic ragged, we both worked diligently in our essential careers and just let life, life! We stayed focused on our safety and the well-being and safety of our mothers and kids. We remained committed to personal promises of improving ourselves and never returning to our old ways of existing. One day, while on Instagram, Ken posted a picture after a haircut, and almost a month later, Flora saw it and hearted it. The picture was entitled "Zaddy's Home" and was posted on September 12, 2020. And on October 23, 2020, Kenya sent Flora a DM after she "hearted" another one of his post-haircut "thirst trap pics." The DM was warning her that liking the pictures was going to get something started. Flora quipped back, "Ready, set go," and Ken replied, "Are you sure you are ready for the time of your life?" The rest is a spectacular bond of choosing to build, grow, love, respect, appreciate, and trust each other. We quickly started seeing each other around our super busy schedules and learned our goals, work ethics, and visions for our future were very similar. We also learned to embrace our differences and use them as strengths. Kenya was going through an intense and rigorous 18-month course for a promotion at work. So the times we spent together were beautiful and sacred. As the days turned into weeks, then months, we realized it had quickly been two years. We had some rough days together; we had sick days, laughs, tears, amazing trips, lovely date nights, one big argument, and many, many fun times. God laughed at the plans we had for our lives and the things we thought we wanted. God brought us together at the perfect time in each of our lives. The growth and maturity we brought into this relationship allowed us to choose each other; nothing was forced. Our love grew stronger, and most importantly, our appreciation and respect grew for each other. We celebrate and support each other. We work as a team and we worship God together. So coming into 2024, we knew we were each other's "person" and wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. We decided to have a last-minute cookout and invite family over because Ken worked for Easter and we didn't celebrate it. As Flora was running around entertaining and cooking, Ken made an announcement to get everyone's attention, got down on one knee on April 6, 2024, and proposed with a Tiffany emerald-cut diamond. Flora said "yes," and the planning began because Ken said he wanted to marry before the year was out. We decided on a date, and are preparing to pronounce before God and you all to become husband and wife. We thank each of you for all the love and support, and we are excited to celebrate our big day with you all! Flora: What I love the most about Ken is the way he looks at me and the way he loves me. Ken makes me feel safe. He’s dependable, reliable and solid. I can turn my brain off with him. Ken: What I love the most about Flora is how she makes me feel loved and appreciated. I love how she challenges me to be my best. I love how hard she works on everything she does.
