What clothes should I pack?

Answer

The best answer is to wait until 2 days before leaving to pack your clothes. Colorado weather can change by 50° overnight or in a day, but the averages during our wedding weekend are 65° HIGH/38° LOW. It's not unheard of to get snow, but also 65° can feel like 85° due to the elevation. We recommend packing layers, a warm jacket, mostly casual clothes, and at least one cocktail attire outfit for the wedding.

How can I prepare for the elevation change?

Answer

Traveling to over 6000 ft in elevation is no joke! Common elevation sickness symptoms include headaches, dizziness, and shortness of breath. BUT this is easily prevented! Plan to start drinking 100 oz of water daily, 7 days prior to traveling. Water is the best preventative care for your body. And you'll need to keep drinking water once you arrive. Breathing exercises help immensely. Google "alkaline breathing." There are also over-the-counter medications, such as Acli-mate or Altitude RX, that can be purchased online or in stores. Bottled oxygen is also very popular! Overall, the earlier you can arrive the better. That will give you time to recover from any jetlag or elevation symptoms you are experiencing. By the way, alcohol will hit you much quicker and more intensely here!

Will I encounter wild animals?

Probably! Colorado Springs has deer, elk, rabbits, eagles, coyotes, bears, etc. Coming face to face with larger animals is rare, though. The proper etiquette is to lower your voice while hiking or in wooded areas to respect the wildlife.

Can you tell us about Colorado tap water?

Answer

For one, it starts out super cold. So for those of you coming from Florida or Arizona, be prepared. But it's also really tasty. Don't be afraid to drink from the tap in your hotel room.

What are some of Zach and Lindsay's favorite local (not nationwide chain) spots?

Answer

Before we name actual places, you should know that Colorado is famous for green chili (typically made with pork). It's used in sauces, stews, burger toppings, etc. So we highly encourage you to at least try some while here. Both the Welcome Dinner and the Reception will have it available as a sauce/topping, but ordering a bowl of green chili at a restaurant is always a great idea (with soft flour tortillas and sour cream because it can be spicy). What is there to know about buying/smoking marijuana?

The city of Colorado Springs does not allow the sale of recreational marijuana BUT there are several locations in neighboring cities and towns that do. Manitou Springs is the closest and Pueblo is the cheapest. Denver has it everywhere. Indoor locations forbid smoking, but it is legal to smoke outside in private places where specified. Be sure to check the rules at your hotel and restaurants. You are free to smoke outside at Poe Manor (the wedding and reception site) but not indoors. Just like alcohol, the elevation will cause marijuana to hit you much harder!

Will there be parking at Poe Manor (the wedding and reception site)?

YES Tons. There is garage parking for 6 cars and plenty of other spots in the circular driveway.
