The way these two tell it, it could have come out of someone's story book. It was a Friday night in August 2022. We'll start with Jack's version. He was still working for United Rentals and was on-call for the week. He remembers how he had to go to downtown Denver to deliver a piece of generator cable, and decided to take his new puppy, Riley, with him. Named after Austin Riley. What a dweeb. Anyway, she was only 6 months old at the time and enjoyed the adventure. On the way home, while sitting in traffic, he noticed the exit for Belleview off Highway 25 and decided that, since they were already there, might as well pull into the dog park for a little bit so that Riley could run around. The dog park had a bar - appropriately named the Belleview Beer Garden - after a long week, maybe he'd indulge himself in one or two. No more though, since he was on-call. He says hello to some of the people he knows there, grabs a beer, and walks back into the park and sees Riley playing with this short, blonde, little furball - who he'd soon find out was named Sonya. Unsure who the owner of this dog was, but happy they were going to sleep well that night, he continued on. He noticed a girl sitting on a bench wearing all black, wearing glasses, and reading a book, and thought she could be the owner. But there was no way she wanted to talk to anyone - she brought the book for a reason. However, as it happens in a Denver summer, the rain came down heavily - for all of five minutes, as it does there. Wouldn't you know, that girl in black was the only one in the entire dog park to have an umbrella. In a full park. Where we all live. And all see the rain. Every. Single. Day. Jack turned to Chelsea and said something to the effect of "I can't believe you're the only one here that's prepared for this," and found out that she was indeed Sonya's mom. Turns out, they were drinking the same beer that night - a Dry Dock Apricot Blonde as Jack remembers it. Chelsea bought the first round (boo this man) - but Jack bought plenty more after that. From that point on, it was history. Chelsea even survived three straight days in a U-Haul with him when they moved back to Jack's home state of Georgia in February 2024. Without those dogs gone crazy at the dog park, their story wouldn't be the same.
