Andrew and I met informally at a college house party when we were both Juniors at Western Michigan University. We then met again through a blind double date with mutual friends who were dating at the time. Andrew then joined my co-ed intramural basketball team at WMU.
We traveled to Gatlinburg, TN and rented a mountain side cabin for just the two of us. The drive to the cabin was incredibly steep and narrow, and honestly very terrifying. Andrew drove the entire week. Our first hike at Great Smokey Mountains National Park was Chimney Tops Trail. The trail gains 1,400 feet in 2 miles which makes for a steep climb. Despite the struggle with the ascending climb, at times (HAHA!) the view was amazing. Andrew gave his phone to a man who was there with his wife and two little daughters. He took several photos of us with the view in the background. Andrew then asked the man to take one more, which is when Andrew proposed. The man taking the photos started yelling "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!" He was able to catch a seven second short video of Andrew proposing which I cherish. There were between 20-30 people at the time, all clapping and congratulating us. We spent the rest of the week hiking and going to moonshine tastings. We brought home a lot of moonshine.
People frequently ask us, "what are you up to these days?" So here is an update! Andrew and I have lived together in Kalamazoo, MI for 3 years. Andrew bought our house in Feb. 2017. Since then we have adopted two puppies whom we love! Toby is a 4 year old black lab mix. Piper is a 2 year old sheperd husky. Visit the Photos page for adorable pictures. Andrew currently works as a sheriff road deputy for Van Buren County. He is also on the dive recovery team. I currently work at Nova Care Kids as a pediatric outpatient Occupational Therapist. I also work PRN for Industrial Therapy Solutions specializing in ergonomics and work injury prevention. We are both very excited to have you all witness and celebrate our marriage! Let's party!
