One evening a friend from elementary school invited me, Fiona, out to the bar to catch up with some other friends. I decided why not, and met them out at Underdogs off Washington St. As it was a dog bar, I'm pretty sure there were more dogs running around than humans! Which if you know either Ethan or I, you know we were both in heaven. My friend had also invited a lot of his friends from college so it was good mix of kids from good ole Spring, Tx and LSU Tiger Band. As I was sitting there listening to all the conversations around me, I overheard Ethan telling some of my friends what he does for living. He said, "I work in IT at a valve company in Stafford." To which I had to chime in and say "No way, I also work in IT at a valve company in Stafford!" Turns out we worked not even 10 mins from each other! Shortly after that, Ethan had to leave. While he was closing out his tab, I had made my way over there to keep conversation up but Ethan being Ethan, obviously didn't offer up his phone number lol. After meeting Ethan, I decided to go the old school route and add him on facebook like any normal millennial does. Guess who didn't add me back? So me being me, I freaked and deleted my friend request after a week. A couple weeks later, I was hanging out with my friend who casually mentioned Ethan's best friend was trying to set me up with him. Next thing I know facebook is notifying me that Ethan Mayfield accepted my friend request...the one I know I canceled 2 weeks prior! I guess even facebook wasn't going to let this opportunity pass. Our friends then set up a couple more group nights to get us out together. Fast forward a month, I'm full on dating this guy and here we are, 3 years later, engaged and getting ready to say our I dos.
Fiona and I have been on several memorable trips together, but none more memorable than our trip to Seattle in July of 2021. I had been planning on asking her to marry me for months, just didn't know when the perfect time would be. That is until we were walking through the shops at the Pike Place Market, and I saw an artist's stand with their photographs on aluminum. I saw one of a waterfall and immediately began wondering where the waterfall was, and if I could convince the group to go there so I could ask Fiona to marry me. Little did I know, the path you take to the waterfall was named "Lovers Lane". Once we made the short hike down the path, with Fiona walking in front of me so she didn't see the shape of the ring box in my back pocket, we arrived at the bridge. We stood there and took in the natural beauty, and I dropped on one knee and said "Fiona, will you marry me?" I held the ring with two fingers because I did not want to drop it through the cracks on the bridge 50 feet above the ground, she said "YES!" We hugged and kissed and everyone around congratulated us on our engagement. I have always known Fiona was the one and asking her to marry me overlooking the Lover's Lane waterfall was perfect.
